Stonington has a reputation for being the place to go for seafood and boat excursions of every kind but in more recent decades has also become one of the Maine coast’s premier gallery centers. Several nationally known artists and artisans work in Stonington as well many others of more local renown. It’s a great way to spend a day! Many galleries and studios are located in downtown Stonington or a short walk from downtown. Driving around to the galleries and artisans around town is a fun way to explore the town. There’s no cost to look! Visit some or all the galleries to see a look at a wide range of work – different artists and artisans using numerous mediums to offer different perspectives of our beautiful town and beyond. Open Late June to mid October, 11 – 5 six days a week, 1 – 4 on Sundays. Jill Hoy is a nationally known artist who primarily does paintings of the Maine coast landscape in vivid colors. Visit her gallery for a viewing of many of her paintings and watercolors.
